Magnetic door sensors
5 June 2017
This post introduces magnetic door sensors, also called reed switches, that are used to trigger movement of the objects (e.g. doors and windows) it is mounted too.
Relay switch modules
26 March 2016 | Updated 27 January 2018
Relay switch modules are used as high voltage AC switches by connecting a signal and DC power supply to it. These modules are made up by a relay (the ‘heart’), screw terminal connectors, a resistor, diode, capacitor, transistor and LED – making it perfect for electronic hobbyists to use in projects.
Laser Transmitter Receiver modules for sensing movement
23 March 2016 | Updated 6 December 2017
Laser Transmitter Receiver Modules consist of a collimated Laser Transmitter module (a straight, non-diverging laser beam) and a separate non-modulating Laser Tube Sensor/Receiver module (a laser beam sensor).
Sending alert emails from a Raspberry Pi for home automation projects
13 February 2016 | Updated 30 June 2017
On the Raspberry Pi, alert messages can be sent using various communication mediums (e.g. emails, SMSs and Twitter). Various APIs and collected data from sensors can be the source for alert emails. This post shows how to send emails with a Raspberry Pi using terminal commands. Alert emails can also be configured to be sent by Cron.
